NFL Week 8 Picks
By Wes Whiteside
Key Wins Last Week: Buffalo Bills over San Diego Chargers (23-14), Washington Redskins over Cleveland Browns (14-11) and New England Patriots over Denver Broncos (41-7).
Key Loses Last Week: Chicago Bears over Minnesota Vikings (48-41), St Louis Rams over Dallas Cowboys (34-14) and Green Bay Packers over Indianapolis Colts (34-14).
Last Weeks Fantasy Gems: Matt Schaub (Texans) 267 yards passing and 2TDs, Clinton Portis (Redskins) 175 yards rushing and 1 TD and Randy Moss (Patriots) 2 TDs.
Bye Teams: Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings
1:00 pm Games:
Oakland Raiders (2-4) Baltimore Ravens (3-3): Both teams are coming off of huge wins last week. Look for the Ravens D to continue to keep the pressure off their rookie quarterback Joe Flacco, who is slowly maturing every game.
RAVENS by 13
Fantasy Pick: Ravens Defense
Arizona Cardinals (4-2) at Carolina Panthers (5-2): Okay, I’ve been waiting for two weeks to get this off my chest. Sorry Cardianls for not picking you against the Cowboys, I promise never to listen to my girl friend again when it comes to Cardinals football. There you happy?
CARDINALS by 3
Fantasy Pick: Kurt Warner QB of the Cardinals
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-2) at Dallas Cowboys (4-3): I call this game the grey beard bowl, both starting quarterback are well past their prime, but Bucs QB Jeff Garcia has a little bit in the tank. After watching the Cowboys last week, Brad Johnson’s tank is totally empty.
BUCCANEERS by 10
Fantasy Pick: Jeremy Stevens TE of the Buccaneers
Washington Redskins (5-2) at Detroit Lions (0-6): The Lions are so bad the game won’t be shown locally in Detroit. It’s true; the game will be blacked out. Man, how much worse can they get?
REDSKINS by 14
Fantasy Pick: Santana Moss WR of the Redskins
Buffalo Bills (5-1) at Miami Dolphins (2-4): Bills quarterback Trent Edward was solid last week and continues to climb the charts as an elite quarterback in the NFL. Edwards totally outplayed Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers last week, watch for Edwards to do the same this week against another house hold name, Chad Pennington.
BILLS by 7
Fantasy Pick: Lee Evens WR of the Bills
St. Louis Rams (2-4) at New England Patriots (4-2): Rams interim coach Jim Haslett has brought the best show of turf back to St. Louis, after two consecutive win over playoff contending teams in the NFL east. Do you really think Haslett can be beat hooded bandit Bill Bilichick? I don’t think so.
PATRIOTS by 14
Fantasy Pick: Sammy Morris RB of the Patriots
San Diego Chargers (3-4) at New Orleans Saints (3-4): In a game that will be played in London England, both teams will need to knock off the rust they both showed last week. The Saints will try to do without their big play maker Reggie Bush, who did not make the flight and will stay back to nurse a bad knee. On the Chargers end they need to get their big play maker LaDainian Tomlinson back to his old ways.
CHARGERS by 6
Fantasy Pick: Antonio Gates TE of the Chargers
Kansas City Chiefs (1-5) at New York Jets (3-3): Which Brett Favre will show this game? Since his six touchdowns performance against the Cardinals in week 4, Favre has thrown 4 interceptions and only 1 touchdown. If bad Favre shows the Jets will still have a solid running game to fall back on to win.
JETS by 9
Fantasy Pick: Thomas Jones RB of the Jets
Atlanta Falcons (4-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (3-3): Falcons head Coach Alex Smith is by far coach of the year early this season, he has brought his rookie quarterback Matt Ryan a long way in his first season, but don’t think Eagle D coordinator Jim Johnson won’t test Ryan this week. The Eagles defense is rank in the top 10 in the NFL for yards per game and passing yards per game.
EAGLES by 14
Fantasy Pick: Brian Westbrook RB of the Eagles
4:00 pm Games:
Cleveland Browns (2-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3): Every week I say to myself this is the week the Browns turn it around, they did that the Giants game, hung around last week but lost in Washington. I have to say now the Browns are in deep trouble if they don’t win this game. The next few weeks they play Baltimore, Denver and the Buffalo they could be looking at 6-4 or at best 3-7, come on Brownies I need you.
UPSET SPECIAL BROWNS by 3 in Overtime
Fantasy Pick: Braylon Edwards WR of the Browns
Cincinnati Bengals (0-7) at Houston Texans (2-4): Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will miss is third consecutive start due to an injured elbow. After being sacked seven times last week Bengals quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick may want to get rid of the ball a little bit earlier this week, because he will going up against one of the best defensive lines in the league.
TEXANS by 14
Fantasy Pick: Andre Johnson WR of the Texans
New York Giants (5-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1): There’s a lot to questions this game. Like who is the better quarterback from the 2004 draft, Eli or Big Ben? Do the Steelers really miss Plaxico Burress, or who will prevail the Giants offense of the Steelers defense? I can’t wait for the answers.
STEELERS by 7
Fantasy Pick: Ben Roethlisberger QB of the Steelers
Seattle Seahawks (1-5) at San Francisco 49ers (2-5): Mike Nolan is out in San Francisco, but there’s another Mike in town former super bowl shuffle great Mike Singletary. I’m glad he finally has a chance to show NFL owners out there he is worthy of a coaching job. His former coach Mike Ditka said he was a coach while he played in Chicago for 11 seasons.
49ERS by 10
Fantasy Pick: Frank Gore RB of the 49ers
Monday Night Game:
Indianapolis Colts (3-3) at Tennessee Titans (6-0): Another adversity test for the Titans as they look to stay the only team in the NFL undefeated. Look for Colts quarterback Peyton Manning to have a better showing this week, he needs to erase those memories from last weeks disappointing effort quickly, because the Titans D is first in the NFL in points per game; they are only giving up an astonishing 11 points per contest. Here’s a stat for you the Colts have beaten the Titans 8 or the last 10 times.
COLTS by 12
Fantasy Pick: Peyton Manning QB of the Colts
