We usually honor athletes for their scoring output or their record breaking performances. Rarely, does the special team’s play get enough recognition. And ever rarer still is the sight of recovering an onside kick.
After tying the score at 28 in the forth quarter, the General McLane coaching staff called for the onside kick. After the ball was kicked, Jason Shesterenko jumped on the ball and secured possession for the Lancers.
For his game-changing play, Shesterenko is this week’s Quinn Law Firm Athlete of the Week. With possession of the ball, the Lancers were able to march down the field and score the game winning touchdown. After a slow start to the season, General McLane has rattled off three straight wins, thanks to performances such as Shesterenko’s.
