BayHawks Select Ten In D-League Expansion Draft
Picks include last year’s D-League MVP
ERIE— The NBA Development League Erie BayHawks selected former West Virginia guard Mike Gansey with their first pick, second overall, in the NBA Development League Expansion Draft held earlier today.
“What we tried to do was secure the rights to the best players available in the draft,” said BayHawks head coach John Treloar. “Many of these players are pursuing careers in Europe, but we know often times these guys will come back and by holding their rights we can work with our affiliate teams (Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers) and these players could end up on their summer league rosters and eventually with us.”
Other players selected by the BayHawks include: Kris Lang, a 6-11 center from North Carolina, Dahntay Jones, a 6-6 forward from Duke and last year’s D-League MVP Randy Livingston, who announced his retirement after winning the league championship with the Idaho Stampede.
“Randy announced his retirement after last year, but sometimes that (retirement) is harder than these guys realize,” said Treloar. “He’s an LSU guy, a league MVP and a great leader which is a terrific combination as far as I’m concerned.” Treloar comes to the BayHawks after a tenure as an assistant coach at LSU.
The BayHawks will look to add to their inaugural season roster with free agent tryouts set for October 4-5 at Family First Sports Park, Cleveland/Akron, October 11-12 at the University of Akron and Philadelphia, October 18-19, site details to be determined. Full details on the free agent camps are available on the team’s Web site at ErieBayHawks.com.
