The Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League today announced a long term agreement with LECOM, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, to be the exclusive, presenting partner for the team. As part of the agreement, the College will become the official medical provider for the BayHawks and a team of LECOM physicians will work with the team’s players.
“We are extremely excited at the broad scope and nature of our relationship with LECOM,” said Ron Sertz, President, Erie BayHawks. “This premiere partnership will provide the BayHawks with a top flight sports medicine team and full continuum of medical care options.”
LECOM sees the agreement as a great opportunity to introduce it’s new Sports Medicine Program affiliated with Millcreek Community Hospital and Medical Associates of Erie. The program will be located at the LECOM Medical Fitness and Wellness Center when that facility opens later this year. Patrick Leary, DO, directs the Sports Medicine Program.
“This is a great moment for the Erie BayHawks and the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, said Dr. Leary, DO. “The BayHawks have entrusted their sports medicine needs to us. As the Head Team Physician, with a great group of colleagues supporting the effort, a great new wellness facility and a great coach in John Treloar, we will endeavor to keep the BayHawks in good medical condition in hopes of the team becoming an immediate contender in the league.”
“This long-term, wide ranging commitment by LECOM is a real validation of the Erie BayHawks' place in a great sports town like Erie, and an indicator of the high caliber of basketball, entertainment, and commitment that a team in the NBA Development League will bring to the Erie community,” said Dan Reed, President, NBA Development League.
The BayHawks also unveiled their new look basketball court which features a twenty-two foot replica of their primary logo at center court as well as a pair of LECOM logos at mid-court.

The NBA Development League today released the schedule of games for the 2008-2009 slate, which marks the first season for the expansion Erie BayHawks.
The BayHawks will start with their longest road trip of the season with five games on the road before returning to the Tullio Arena for their first ever home opener, Thursday, December 11 at 7 p.m.
The Bayhawks will tip-off all of their home games at 7:00 p.m. with the exception of the School Kids Jam Wednesday, March 18 at 11:00 a.m. and the March Madness Matinee, Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m.
Highlights of the 2008-2009 BayHawks Season Schedule:
Ø Home game breakdown- 1- Monday, 3- Wednesday, 5- Thursday,
5-Friday, 5- Saturday and 5-Sunday games.
Ø Longest home stand- six games Thursday, February 26 through Friday
March 13.
Ø The Bayhawks will face the defending D League champion Idaho Stampede only once this season, at home, Wednesday, February 4.
Ø The Bayhawks will play in the annual D League Showcase, which features all 16 teams playing two games each over a four-day period, January 5-8 in Orem, Utah.
