Baseball boss...
Cathedral Prep’s head baseball coach Mike Dombkowski has resigned today. He steps away after guiding the Ramblers for the past four seasons. He was previously an assistant with the program for five years.
During his reign Dombkowski led Prep to three straight District Ten titles, those coming in 2005, 2006 and 2007. It was the first time a coach had won three consecutive D-10 crowns since Stan Brzezicki accomplished the feat from 1998-2000. Dombkowski also earned a Region title in 2005.
“I would like to thank the administration, parents and players for the opportunity to coach at Cathedral Prep,” Dombkowski said. “I am thankful that I had the fortune to coach at one of the best high schools in the tri-state area. I feel that it is the right time to move on from coaching baseball at Prep.”
His best season with the Ramblers came in 2006 when he watched his team advance to within one game of the state championship with an 18-5 record. His overall record of 62-21 was good for a .747 winning percentage.
“Mike did a very solid job for us for four years and I don’t think he ever got the proper recognition for his work as the head baseball coach,” said Prep Athletic Director Bill Flanagan. “We are disappointed to see him leave and wish him the best as he moves forward.”
Cathedral Prep is currently accepting applications for the position of head baseball coach. Anyone interested in applying should contact Bill Flanagan at 453-7737 ext. 227 or via e-mail at
