Lacrosse player earns...

Gannon’s Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) has been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)/US Lacrosse All-America second team released Thursday afternoon.

Dixon, the lone Lady Knight to earn All-Region first-team honors on May 22, earned the first all-america honor of her collegiate career. The junior midfielder started every match, leading the team in goals (56) while ranking second in points (66). She scored at least two goals in every match while producing game-winning tallies against Notre Dame (Ohio) and Belmont Abbey.

The Lafayette, N.Y., native ranked 11th among NCAA Division II players in goals per match (3.73), 22nd in points per match (4.40), and 24th in draw controls per match (2.87). Dixon’s six goals against both Notre Dame (Ohio) and Regis (Colo.) equaled the 19th-highest single-match total in NCAA Division II this season. She ranks ninth all-time at Gannon in goals (106), 10th in points (131), and 12th in assists (25). Her 66 points this season equal the sixth-highest single-season total in school history.

Gannon concluded the 2008 season with a come-from-behind 13-11 victory against rival Mercyhurst. The Lady Knights overcame an 8-3 halftime deficit en route to their fifth consecutive victory against the Lakers, increasing their lead in the all-time series to 10-2. Gannon has reached double digits in victories during each of the last four seasons and has never recorded a losing season during its 13-year history.

The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 14 in King of Prussia, Pa.
