The Penn State Behrend Athletic Department held the 15th annual Herb Lauffer Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, July 29th. Lawrence Park Golf Club played host to more than 120 golfers including current and former staff members as well as many alumni.
Sponsored by the Behrend Lions Athletic Association (BLAA), this scramble-style tournament honors the longtime coach and Athletic Director Herb Lauffer. Lauffer was a vital part of athletics at Behrend for nearly 30 years. His career at Behrend began when he took the reins as the men’s tennis coach before coaching the men’s soccer team for 23 years. Soon after, Lauffer took over as the Athletic Director, making a positive impact on those around him.
This year’s tournament included 32 foursomes, along with Herb’s wife Fran Lauffer. The tournament is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Athletic Department, benefitting Behrend Athletics as a whole.
