Seven win major scholarships at Metro Erie Hall of Fame Inductions

 

Seven recently graduated student/athletes from Erie County high schools were awarded major scholarships totaling more than $10,000 during the Metro Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame inductions on Tuesday evening.

 

The recipients of this year’s major awards include the following:

 

Ron Costello Memorial ScholarshipShane Saginak, Mercyhurst Prep (cross country, basketball, baseball, track & field) and Cory Owens, Corry (football, basketball).

 

Erie Otters Brad Boyes ScholarshipJohn Hurd, Fairview (cross country, track & field).

 

Natalie Pacileo Fortuna Memorial ScholarshipMadison Hahesy, McDowell (basketball) and Cassie Jordan, North East (cross country, basketball, track & field).

 

T.J. Guthleben Community Service AwardBrianna Opperman, Strong Vincent (Collegiate Academy), (soccer, bowling, softball) and Meghan Carney, Corry (basketball, softball).

 

The 10 new members inducted into the Metro Erie Hall of Fame included Julian Blanks, Cliff Crosby, Nancy Eisenman-Elwell, Brooke Freeburg, John Leisering, Andy Schulz, Joe Sholtis, Roger Sweeting, Craig Turnbull and Joe Sivak. Sivak was inducted posthumously.
