I was a junior in high school and "The PRESIDENT'S TEAM" hits a home run for me, the author Michael Connelly, bringing back the emotion and passion of that team -- and those times. Who, my age, didn't know the answer to, "Where were you when Kennedy was shot.?"
Connelly did a fanstatic job of combining the emotion of living through JFK's assassination with the excitement of College Football.
I was a Notre Dame fan first, but the Army and Navy teams were always something special, and the 1963 Navy squad was definitely something special And it was even more special than I remembered after reading the "The PRESIDENT'S MEN."
John F. Kennedy and Roger Staubach were two men I admired greatly, before reading the book, and two men I admired even more following the read.
In his writings, Connelly capured the mood of the country, insight into the service academies, the character of Staubach -- and his teammates -- and the excitement of the Army-Navy game. Connelly added some info on one of favorite college football players of all-time, Navy Heisman Trophy winner Joe Bellino.
Again, this book is a must read for football and non-football fans alike.

EDITOR'S NOTES -- Erie native Anthony A. Anthony is mentioned a a great antecdote on page 18...Connelly was very impressive as a gurst on my radio show The Sports Blitz on 1330 am The Fan...He went to the same high school as former major leaguer, and my room mate in the army, Claude "Skip" Lockwood...Check out Connelly's blogs at the Boston Herald... The 1963 SMU wasn't too impressive in this book.
